This book is written from the perspective a young girl whose mom is in prison and she has always kept that a secret from her friends. Suddenly she meets a girl that makes her question whether or not she should be keeping secrets from her. It's a great book that demonstrates the difficulties of being a young girl with "outside the norm" problems. First I'll say that overall I liked this book, however it took a while to get into. The cadence and rhythm of the book is a little strange and takes a while to get used to. The main character is someone you "love to hate" during his journey from baby to man. I found it very interesting how the author weaved in stories within the story that most would recognize as fairy tales. This book definitely isn't for everyone but if you are looking for something interesting and different that will make you think this book may be for you. I wasn't as into this one as the first book (The Iron Trial) but it was still a very good book. You learn a little more about the supporting characters in the one (Jasper, Tamara, Aaron, and Alastair). The beginning of the book makes you wonder where the author is going with this story but once you get about a third of the way in the story draws you in and you become invested in finishing the book. The ending also makes you look forward to the third book coming out! If you liked Harry Potter you will love this book also! It was about a boy finding out that he was something he hadn't expected and how he dealt with it, and how he went from someone with no friends to someone with friends. I never expected the twist the book took towards the end and I can't wait for the next one to arrive! |
