A book about a young girl with Asperger's Syndrome that really gives you insight into how she thinks and feels. This book will make you stop and think about how you interact with others and how differently each person views things that are said and done around them. It was a quick easy read about a difficult topic. Another must read in my opinion!

This was a book that was so good I couldn't wait to finish it, but I was sad when it ended. This book is about a young girl who has had some tough breaks and ends up going on an adventure that is exciting and scary because it is a matter of life and death. She makes some great friends along the way and begins to figure out where she belongs. A must read! This book is written from the perspective of a young girl writing about the year that she turned 11 and all of the important things that happened to her and her family during the course of that year. She talks about family, school, and relationships. It is a very engaging book that will make you laugh at times and want to cry at others. Most importantly it is "real" in the sense that it writes about the feelings and thoughts that your average kid might have without sugarcoating them. This book examines the struggle all kids go through when moving from their tweens towards their teens. It demonstrates the emotional turmoil of accepting that not only you but your friends are changing and therefore your life is changing. The quest that the main characters embark on is delightfully creepy without being "gorey" which adds a touch of mystery to this peek into the social dilemma's of a group of middle school aged friends. This book has three short stories about urban legends. While the stories grabbed my attention, and held it until the end, I found myself disappointed that there was no closure or explanation for the urban legends. However, I realize that THAT is the point of urban legends, there are no real explanations. Definitely gets you thinking. So far this is one of my favorites of the 2014-2015 Maine Student Book Award Nominees. A story about a fabulously modern library that succeeds in developing the love of reading in a non-reader during an overnight in the newly opened library. There are a lot of lessons to be learned in this book through the characters involved in the overnight. It proves that if you try to find it there is always a book for you in the library. It also demonstrates the beauty of teamwork. |
