A story about a young immigrant boy who finds himself in trouble with law. The reader follows him on his journey of growth and experiences that makes him realize his life wasn't/isn't as bad as he thought. It's a slow start to the book but once you get a couple chapters in you can't help but wonder how Naeem is going to dig himself out of the hole he has put himself in. With Transgender being a hot topic in society this would be an excellent reading choice for anyone trying to understand what Transgender means and how it may impact the lives of the people connected to someone who identifies as being Transgender. A fairly easier read about a very complex topic. I definitely would recommend this book. This book is about an aspect of WWII that may not be familiar to the general population. The subject matter has to do with a group of students called The White Rose who banned together to fight Hitler's beliefs and edicts. Learning about the existence of The White Rose group helps give a more well rounded picture of WWII and the position that many Germans were put in. This was a great book written from the perspective of a girl whose father was a survivor of 911 and as a result he sheltered her from the subject. She moves to another school where 911 is part of the curriculum. The reader follows her through the process of trying to figure out why 911 is a "hot topic" and how it has had a direct affect on her life. This was a very interesting book but may not be for everyone. This book is about a boy whose baby brother is born with various health issue and a White Wasp Queen offers to "fix" him. The concept was very unique and a bit odd. If you like stories with twists and surreal concepts, kind of urban legend worthy, you would definitely go for this book. I liked how this book presented a couple complicated issues (dealing with the death of a parent and overcoming a serious mistake) from the perspective of a young boy. I also like how it didn't try to wrap everything up into a tidy little package but it did show the ability to accept things we don't like and actually change for the better once we do. |
